And so another Thanksgiving has come and gone...
Regrettably, the biggest part of parenting is just surviving the day...
I was almost run over by a 3-year old on a scooter today...
Here we are. Fall is upon us. I'm digging through old pictures and realizing how fast my kids are growing up. I mean fast! This pic is just from a few years ago, but my kids are so different. We've actually graduated from letting them do the corn maze alone, to possibly maybe letting them do the corn maze AT NIGHT! with their friends. That's a big step in the October Halloween world. Yes, we're moving into the tweens. Ugh. Anyhow, the book has gone through its initial 1st proof stage! All the art is in it. All the poems are done. Its just tweaking time! I think its really coming together. Unfortunately, we're still trying to figure out the cover. Apparently, a number of people are concerned about the "dad on toilet" pic my kids drew. So we're trying very hard to find an alternate. It's NOT easy. I'm hopeful we'll have something soon. In the meantime, the link to the Amazon...
I thought it would be important today to highlight some helpful tips for the new dads out there. Of course, we all know, fatherhood can be quite a shock. Lack of sleep, lack of time, lack of silence - it all starts to add up into a continuous cacophony of panic and confusion. Luckily, I thought of this while my wife sent me to the store this weekend...
So tonight, I realized I don't have to drive the kids to soccer practice. Say WHUUUT?!!? That's right!! I've already paid my dues driving earlier in the week, and tonight it just so happens - I DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE! I feel like a won the lotto! I'm elated. Dancing on clouds. THRILLED!!! ...
Geez, I've been going back looking for pictures and drawings for Stark Raving Dad. And I keep finding things, I really should have shared. This is one of them. My boys were so into Star Wars for a time. And I LOVED IT! There were also into wearing their underwear on the outside of their PJ's and tucking useful items into them - like light sabres, and screwdrivers, and tape measures. I LOVED THAT TOO! This video makes my sad, and proud, and laugh all at the same time. I miss my Star Wars-loving, outside-underwear-clad superheroes! This is actually a few years old, I wished i would have posted it then. But obviously it got lost in the haze of sleeplessness and daily survival chaos...
Well, as the kids got older - a lot of the art started adding militaristic items. Like this duck - wearing an army helmet and seemingly shooting high-caliber machine-gun fire out of his bill! I actually love this stuff. It makes me laugh, seeing what seemingly innocuous creatures/items the boys turn into dangerous weapons of mass destruction. Of course, none of these pics made it into the book. I've just delivered the last of my kids' art to Running Press. And MOST of it - is much more innocent...
And so, we start a new school year! Typically, I'd be a little sad at this time...
